They’re here! The most beautiful washer and dryer I have ever laid eyes on that is. For 3 wks we have washed clothes that required several extra spin cycles and weren’t reliably coming clean anyway, only to be hung all over the bathroom, dining and laundry room due to a stone dead dryer. This was proceeded by months of jimmy-rigging both machines in order to coax them into some semblence of function. That’s all over now! We are now the proud owners of a wild cherry red, extra large capacity, front loading washer and dryer set.
I have decided if you are going to have an appliance then having one that works well is definitely work the investment. I tend to be ultra cheap and shuffle various Goodwill finds through the house. That has proven to be a great plan for clothing and other household items. Mechanical items – not so much. Given that it had been years since we actually bought a new appliance and seeing that few things get as much use in a family of 11 as the laundry room Allen insisted on a new purchase. What a treat!
The new set is not only eye candy but computerized. Who knew? At the touch of a button the control panel lights up like the cockpit of an airplane. After a few beeps and a tentative spin to assess the load weight it programs itself to begin washing. Could any of us born in the 60s have really believed that we would be doing laundry with a computer?? I half expect to open the front door and hop into my glass topped hover craft now. ; )
regardless of where technology takes us I am as happy as housewives of old to have help in the washing dept. After this year of battling with the whole process it was like a little miracle to have the whole family’s wash done and dried within a few short hrs. Move over Jane Jetson! You may have Rosie but I have LG!
On the subject of laundry…
I ran out my usual cheap detergent (Purex) but the owners of our house left behind some Tide… I used that and the clothes came out very clean! Stains I thought were a lost cause were gone. In your opinion, is it worth it to spend more on detergent; is this just a fluke? What did you use before you got your new set?
I had the same q. I used Tide last fall at the suggestion of a friend. We can’t use bleach much here because of the septic system. My whites are NASTY. I didn’t find Tide to make a difference but it may be that they were too far gone. I would use it if I knew it would help. But for more than double the price I honestly could tell.
Anyone else have an opinion?
Yes, Tide (Tide has the bleach alternative liquid but it also has high performance) (I personally use the regular tide bleach alternative)with oxiclean, (oxiclean –the real one not the one made by clorox). (I’ve used both so I know there is a difference.)
If you have a front loader you need a lot less detergent and with the small scoop of oxiclean you should see great improvement in your clothes. However, read the information on both Tide and oxiclean.
Type of water (not temp)seems to affect the cleaning more, but if you can use hot once in a while on the whites almost all other washing can be done in cold water. With older clothes that have retained detergent and hard water you might try a hot water soak with the tide and oxiclean.
Enjoy your new machines.
Ilove mine and I’ve used Tide for years because it’s been the only detergent that cleans and we have very sensitive skin and supersensitive smell people living here. When I had a baby I tried to use Ivory but found I was better off with Tide because of the smell.
I used to use Tide…it works great but it was too harsh on our skin. I use Bio Kleen (the plus powder)and the Bac Out(you can clean with this stuff too) from Juliestuff.com (she is a hs mom on the 4Real board) That stuff works great. I use it all the time on my cloth diapers and they look fantastic. I am trying to go as natural as possible with everything. I buy the big boxes and they last me a looong time.
HTH!
My husband is allergic to Tide as well, plus I don’t like the smell… but if it can get these kiddo clothes clean, I’d use it on theirs.
I think I’m going to go back to adding Borax and see if that helps. I’m not sure if it was the Tide, or just using a different detergent after 10 years of Purex – you know, like you switch shampoos to get rid of buildup.
For whites with no bleach, wash in hot water, add some plain vinegar with the soap, and dry in the sun.
We noticed Tess is getting irritated where her face is rubbing while nursing and where her collar touches her face. I am wondering if its detergent. Not sure if they have an Ivory for front loaders? Will have to ck. We have been adding borax also.
I THOUGHT I saw the LG here! I was just introduced to one on Saturday and I am hopelessly in love with the red ones ;o) Does this electronic looking spaceship do all that they claim it does?? Does it save you time while doing the laundry too? I am always attacking the laundry monster and I am weary of it and want to get a second dryer at least so I can do laundry faster…I am looking for “insider info” from someone that KNOWS ;o)…LOL!
I am thinking of putting it on my “Oh,St. Joseph, when you get the chance…” list ;o)
