the phone

You are so very clever. Yes, it is the phone, but not the red phone. I have wanted a black rotary style phone for so many years now. I would have been just as happy had it not been fuctional. (yes, form over function any day here ; )) My grandmother had a similar model when I was growing up. The feel of the dial and the sound of it swinging back into place is still with me. Black rivals red for favorite colors. However, had I seen the red phone in the store I would likely still be clutching my gift certificate in indecision. So it was likely a blessing that it wasn’t on display!

  1. Grandpa and Grandma had a similar phone but in olive green. I remember the receiver was so very heavy you could knock somebody out with one smart rap on the head. They had the perfect house for playing a really involved game we called Mystery which involved lots of sneaking around and spying on each other and making desperate phone calls to the FBI on that phone. What we didn’t know was it was still a party line! Ooops!

  2. Your new phone looks beautiful. Good choice! You made me laugh about your possible indecision. For some reason, I clutch gift certificates too.

  3. Ours was attached to the wall. Very black, very big. And our number was only 4 digits. sigh, sure was no temptation to spend hours on the phone then! It was darn boring to be stuck on the phone stool. We all laughed hysterically when we ran across on such phone in a museum of all places! The kids think we’re so hopelessly old.
