become part of the silence

A line from a book I read recently described the tree branches in winter as like arthritic fingers.  I thought of that as I gazed out my window the other morning.  While I stood there a group of dove-gray pigeons came to roost on those frost covered limbs, puffing out their chests as they rested there.

It is a wonderful thing to find the quiet even if it is in tiny little pockets of the day.

  1. Gorgeous photo, Kim!
This post really speaks to me. Especially in the wake of the tragedy in CT. I’m not speaking for anyone but myself, but I, personally, very much feel the need to become part of the silence. For the most part I have avoided the plethora of conversations, links and memes that have been circling the internet and most specifically Facebook. I think a lot of folks feel the need to blame or come up with reasons why/how something so evil can happen. Unfortunately, I’ve seen normally calm folks turn nasty in the pursuit of “working it out”. The more I see and read the more I want to hide away, turn it all off and become part of the silence. In times like these I find it is the best way to mourn…in silence.
I apologize if I’ve taken this in a direction you didn’t intend for it to go. I know you were probably just enjoying the beauties of nature. That is very worthy, indeed.

  2. Kelly, think that is a perfect summation of Romans 12:15. It is exactly the direction I have taken in the wake of this tragedy. In fact I go so far as to suggest that it is the current tendency to “go off” on people that has brought us – as a group – up to this brink. If we cannot cultivate peace inside ourselves we will never, ever create it anywhere else. It is the most supreme irony that we are attacking each other over who has the ‘right’ road to peace and harmony yes?
More to follow. I had one more image to edit for the post that will publish today which is along these lines.
