It’s Like That!

Morning We had a surprise visit from Allen’s aunt and uncle last night.  Since they live in WI, and we don’t, it made for a real SURPRISE – a good one. I am getting better about impromptu visits but it is always unnerving looking at your house and barn through the eyes of a stranger.  I get to wondering if the goat smell comes off as ‘earthy’ or nauseating?  Or if anyone else notices my baseboards need attention? Wait, don’t tell me. I am sort of an ignorance is bliss kinda gal, at least when it comes to things over which I have little control.

This post had the tears about rolling down my cheeks this morning. It’s just so like that around here.

(*This pic was taken before milking one morning here lately as I walked out to the barn.)

  1. Smell? What smell? Tim was playing with the pig on Saturday and I swear he stilled smelled like the pig on Sunday. Makes me wonder if I smell like goats…
Baseboards used to be easy. If one of the kids said they were bored, they cleaned baseboards. Now the word is never used thye have learned new words…

  2. And to think, I almost didn’t post that for fear of offending people who just wouldn’t understand…little did I know! 🙂
Oh, and baseboards. Why’d you have to bring up baseboards??? (But I did just clean mine, inspired by my grandma (who was on her knees doing them for me) a month-ish or so ago…)

  3. I love this, but it isn’t just homesteaders that feel this way. When I was a new mom, I knew a woman with eight children who homeschooled around the block from us. I wanted to see her home and how it all worked and asked if I could come by some time when we’re out walking. I’ll never forget her response. She said, “If you’re coming to see me–come see me anytime you like. But if you’re coming to see my house, make an appointment.” I’ve only grown to understand her meaning more as my family grows.
