Modest Fashion

I got a few moments to catch up on a lovely blog I have saved in Bloglines but neglected to read in recent weeks, Charming the Birds from the Trees. What a shame. I missed some very nice articles, not the least of which were these posts about modest fashion for spring and options for postpartum wear. She has a few posts called What I Wore Wednesday. I could easily import her entire wardrobe I think lol! Probably the odds that she is five feet tall are probably pretty slim however. Nevertheless, it was great inspiration. To be candid, not all the modest wardrobe entries in blog world are as inspiring.

Also of note was the link to the Russian Orthodox women’s fashion show. I haven’t the foggiest idea what the text says, being in Russian and all, so if you you happen to be fluent and just linked to a radical anarchist site or something please excuse me.

For you modest moms who are expecting, Helen shared this link to maternity skirts which was GREATLY appreciated. Perhaps the most intriguing tip she had was the Bella Band. Wow! I think I need one! Apparently these things adapt your non-maternity separates to your changing shape. This could revolutionize my life. I was telling her that being short, I am not happy with the way larger size non-maternity skirts hang from my belly. I end up looking like a hovercraft as dear friend Jen says. REALLY wide. The band would fit the top to your profile though instead of the fabric standing out from your body. Let me know if you have any experience with these ok?

  1. Kim, I just wanted to mention that I bought a similar product at the maternity store which was much cheaper.
I used the band after pregnancy and it helped me get into my skirts while my waist adjusted to being “not pregnant.” I wish I had found the band sooner. I’m pretty sure it would have helped me around 4 and 5 months.

  2. I have the opposite problem of being quite tall, 5’8…anything with a band of any kind around the belly is evil for me, because by the time I’m good and pregnant, there are no shirts on earth long enough to actually cover both me and the band. At this point, all my shirts, even some I bought pretty recently just because they seemed long enough, leave a good three inches of maternity belly band poking out from under. 🙂

  3. I LOVED my Bella Band! Since I had twins, none of my clothes fit after 8 weeks! I would just slip-knot a rubber band through the button hole on my jeans and then loop it over the button, slide the Bella Band on and presto I had maternity jeans! My problem with maternity clothes is the exact opposite of yours! I’m 6 foot, with very long legs! I have a problem with normal clothes let alone maternity!! lol! The Bella Band also worked lovely on my skirts that had zippers, buttons etc. Good Luck!

  4. Hi ladies,
Sorry, I can’t comment on the maternity thing, but I did want to reply to Helen, my sister-in-tallness! My life has been changed by the companies that sell extra-long shirts. Google modest camisole or modest cap sleeve and you’ll get a bunch. Some sites even sell special maternity ones with a bit of extra where you need it. Don’t know how I ever did without these.
