kicking it off

Brendan is having a fine soccer season.  He is easy to spot.  He is the one dancing in the field between plays. He couldn't be having more fun if he tried.

The season opened with a bang. They held a massive multi-sport opening day ceremony complete with parade. Each team participated.

 Here's B marching by:

In all, he has a decent grasp of the game:

But this may have been my favorite moment so far:

The very sweetest part of the day was when he tugged earnestly at my shirt hem going, "Mom!  Mom! Mom!"  "Yes?" I said.  "I am so happy!" he squealed.

I am too, Buddy.

  1. Love this, Kim. So very sweet. It reminds me of our good days in Belgium, when the DoD school was less than a mile away and the base rec teams played most of their games there. Sports were so fun and easy and such a great way of building community. Our last year we had four playing soccer, four playing basketball, and three playing softball (same kids, different seasons) They all enjoyed it so much and grew in unexpected ways…it was worth the hassles of time and scheduling. I think. πŸ™‚ We haven’t found anything quite so accessible here, and my littles are missing out. I know they would love to be playing, just like Brendan. Maybe I need to do some more searching…thanks for the reminder. Love you.

  2. I know what you mean Diane and its been a long time since we had all of them in sports. It was a different life for a long time and that was good too. There is no one right way. : )
And Jeani, we are doing our best but he seems to be getting away from us anyway. Can’t you so see that wave and Popeye smile going to the choir lol? Shoot, who is helping Jacinta with conductor duties now that B is gone??
