Yarn Along – ribbed scarf

I learned to bind off this week which finished the ribbed scarf I began shortly before Christmas.  This is the first knitting project I have actually completed so I am pretty stoked. The first third of the effort was complicated by incomplete stitches and a nerve wracking needle pull by a certain 6yo.

Those bumps have been smoothed out and the challenge for the rest of the scarf was to pay attention.  There are a number of little knobby errors where I purled when I should have knit.  I have no idea how moms of many manage complicated patterns requiring careful counts!  I guess I would have to have a better attention span or knit when they are asleep.  But that is when I edit <g>

My reading time is still spent meandering through The Coming of the Monster.  I read slowly – rather on purpose.  Especially with the final book of the series I am dragging my feet to make it last.  What will I do when the Masterful Monk is gone from my days?  Of course good characters are never really completely gone from our thoughts, are they?

In other reads, Aidan picked up HG Wells' War of the Worlds.  I picked it up for a few pages and wistfully considered reading that too, much like I pulled Jane Eyre off the shelf, which caught Alannah's eye.  She still has it.

I am rereading The Book of Kindness in small chunks as a devotional. It is a convicting read which really deserves annual consideration. Oh to embody those ideals….

  1. Congratultions on finishing your scarf, it looks wonderful!
I no longer have little ones running around and still can’t
count when I knit, I just go with the flow! πŸ™‚

  2. Congrats on completing your knitting project, it looks fab πŸ™‚ Most of my ribbing has a purl in place of a knit somewhere in there, and I don’t even have the excuse of children taking my attention!

  3. I accomplished dishcloths! After a lifetime of crochet, I really want to be able to do those wonderful, intricate, knit patterns…for small sweaters again some day. I am wondering if that time of grandchildren will magically give me counting abilities πŸ™‚ My mother makes the most amazing sweaters. She is my knitting hero.

  4. Congrats on your scarf–hang in there as it does get easier the longer you knit! I am checking out your Kindness book next.
    Happy knitting and reading-
    smiles

  5. Great job finishing. I tell you, I have no littles left and I am awful at counting. Absolutely awful. I have to count out loud and sometimes make Faith listen when I forget. πŸ˜‰

  6. Binding off that first project feels so good!! There are always mistakes in my knits, and I save the complicated stuff for after everyone is in bed!

  7. Congratulations! It looks so lovely and inspires me to try again to actually knit something to completion. I must have started half a dozen times last fall, only to unravel them all. I get lost in the counting and have no idea what I’m doing so out it all goes. But you did it! I’ll check out those ‘beginner patterns’ you linked, and thanks for the reminder to read the kindness book.

  8. I love that song by Jewell with the line “In the end, only kindness matters.” so I added the book you mentioned to my wish list. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Love the scarf, Kim! We’ve been having knitting class every Friday with Cristina (she is from Chile – she’s a year new to the parish…)
Anyhow, I was wondering about that book series – is it just called the masterful monk #1, 2, 3, etc…or do they have different names…and what is the first one? I was going to look for them on abes…I need a new good series! Hope all is well with you and the clan. LOVE seeing pictures of their beautiful faces. They are getting so big…when will we see you round these parts? We miss you all!
    Love and prayers – Jeani
