Under the apple trees

“My troubles are all over, and I am at home; and often before I am quite awake, I fancy I am still in the orchard at Birtwick, standing with my friends under the apple trees.”

– Anna Sewell, Black Beauty

I imagine I will fancy myself standing among these trees long after we leave this farm. I will close my eyes and see boys tossing apples to each other, dogs chasing after. Juice dripping down smiling chins. This is a blessing.

  1. How ’bout them apples! Those are some big green ones!!
I dream of going apple picking some day… I’ve always lived too far south for apple orchards. I’ve picked plenty of peaches in my time, and some Asian pears, but no apples! Happy autumn to all of you!!

  2. Well, I must say….I have always believed that Britain was home to the dainty and the demure. One look at those “apples” however, have given way to a brand new way of seeing your fair country. 🙂 Nothing ladylike about that fruit; I’d say each one could concuss a cow AND make a whole entire pie on it’s own! 🙂

  3. Yikes! Those are so crazy huge apples! lol…Thanks for the french toast inspiration, that’s why I really popped over, to find your recipe again for dinner tonight. 🙂
