of snacks and seals

This was supposed to be the end of a road trip birthday for this little man.  We found a tiny deli, about the size of my living room, in a fishing village.  We got hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows to warm up and homemade rocky road brownies and raced back to eat in the car which was a whole lot warmer than the street.

And then we decided to make one more stop to see if we could get Colin closer to the ocean before he leaves. Good call. It was nearly dark when he flew down the boardwalk at Wells Next the Sea and you could just barely make them out.  There they were though….

Out on that sandbar were several of the local grey seals. Sadly there was only the nifty fifty on the camera but you can see the dark outlines dotting the sand in the distance. Can't say that everyday.

  1. Pressing the “like” button. A glimpse of the ocean is like finally getting to the window when you forgot there were such a thing as winddows (from a VA born girl, long landlocked, anyway…) Sounds like a wonderful birthday outing all around! Such a handsome guy!

  2. Kim, I’m Kim too! I have two questions for you, totally unrelated to this post, but I don’t know how to contact you otherwise… The first is easy. I’m looking for a good camera. I am a total beginner, have a nice camera, but it takes 3-5 seconds to actually take a picture, and when dealing with kids, that’s not ideal. Tell me what you’d choose, and let me know if I need an additional lens to go with it, or an initial photography book to give me some tips? Second is much more involved. I am considering homeschooling. I have 5 girls, aged 10 on down, and am overwhelmed at the amount of options in curriculum. I’ve followed your blog for some time now and share/love your recommendations for just about everything. If at all possible, I’d love a list–bare bones–by subject, for what products you’ve found to be most effective (grammar, spelling, writing, vocabulary, handwriting, math, science, history, geography, music, art)? It’s okay if you list a few things to look at for each subject, because it will at least narrow it down a bit for me. Or, if I’m crazy and this question is way too involved, just ignore it! Thanks for all the time you put into this blog…I truly learn from you and enjoy it immensely.
