Eel Fest

It's been too nice to sit home on the weekends lately.  The girls and I decided to check out the Ely Eel Fest this month.  Truth be told it wasn't all that.  Unless you like eel. Much of this area was under water back in the day.  Ely was a high spot.  It was an island then surrounded by water. Water with lots of eels in it.  The monks at the monastery used them as currency. Cromwell's wife later served them at table down the road. So that's the history. There isn't an exotic "foodie" among us girls though, so we mostly just walked and soaked up the sun.

  1. Oooh! We love eel! I highly recommend it Japanese style, on rice with a thick, sweet soy-based sauce (a bit like teriyaki)- and if you can get it charcoal grilled, even better. Yum! I do not like to watch them swimming around before eating them, however. It’s not uncommon for Japanese eel restaurants to have tanks of them on the premises. Ick!
    Gorgeous photos, as always!!

  2. Indeed,,,,I would have stuck with the ice cream too I think. πŸ™‚ Do your kids get their American accents questioned a lot? Are you constantly explaining where you are from? Are your younger kids developing English accents?
We have a friend with three children, two of them born in England. Dad is English, Mom is American. They moved back to America when the oldest was around 12 or so. The oldest still has an English accent, but the younger two do not. I’ve always found that interesting!

  3. I was taken aback by the title, because we have an Ely here in Minnesota, with an Eel Fest, and I thought to myself “Kim was here and I didn’t know??!”
