Thinking about:

Dawn's reflections on an old and dear read about intentional living here

The purpose of our to do lists here.

And that reminded me of the catchphrase I shared years ago –

"The purpose of the task is to strengthen the relationship."

Which only made this one a harder read.

  1. The Beckham article is sobering. I am an older mom …. grandma age, really, but God was good enough to entrust to me two boys in my late fertility. And I am grateful to be given a chance to really grow up and out of myself as a result of being a parent. But I know the real growing up and letting go transition will be a whole new thing. A humbling thing. A necessary thing. Hopefully, a grace-filled thing. May God have Mercy on me!! On my knees here in Minnesota!

  2. Years ago I thought I understood what the “saved through childbearing” meant. And I did, in part. The self donation involved in actual bearing of them and then the sheer workload to be borne as cheerfully as possible was immense. Just as we learn to do this part we are asked to lay it down again. In trustful, peaceful resignation. It is a whole new level of dying to self. As she said it is more than the end of a chapter, it is the beginning a new story. Same characters – different genre.
